So, why is the ocean such a great biome?
Besides being the largest biome, the ocean is also one of the most diverse.
The ocean biome is divided into separate zones: the intertidal, pelagic, benthic, and abyssal zones.
The intertidal zone:
-- This is the zone where ocean meets land.
--Because of waves and tides it is sometimes underwater and sometimes exposed.
-- Although it is not always underwater, plants and animals still thrive here.
The pelagic zone:
-- This is a zone further away from land, you can remember by thinking "open ocean".
--This zone has more animals than the first zone and temperatures differ quite often.
The benthic zone:
-- This zone is below the pelagic zone, but it's still not the deepest part of the ocean.
-- There is more animal life here than plant life.
The abyssal zone:
-- This is the "deep ocean".
-- This zone is colder than the other zones.
-- Species must be well adapted to live in this zone.
